Unresolved Acute Injury
An old auto accident, fall or sports injury that healed incompletely can leave compensation patterns and lingering tissue irritation for years.

Recognizing the Signs
We serve Apollo Beach, Riverview, Tampa, Brandon, Ruskin, Sun City Center, Gibsonton and surrounding Hillsborough County. Chronic pain is defined as pain that persists or recurs for longer than three months, outlasting the normal healing time for an injury. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke estimates more than 50 million American adults live with chronic pain, making it one of the most common health concerns in the country.
Over time, repeated pain signals can rewire how the nervous system processes input, a phenomenon called central sensitization. This is why chronic pain often becomes about more than the original tissue injury, and why effective care usually requires a multidisciplinary plan. At Spine-Ability, Dr. Deidre Deany, DC, and our team combine acupuncture in Apollo Beach and Riverview, Class IV K Laser therapy, shockwave therapy and chiropractic adjustments to address chronic pain from several angles in one practice.
Understanding the Root Causes
Chronic pain is rarely the result of a single injury that simply refuses to heal. In most cases, an initial tissue insult triggers ongoing inflammation, mechanical dysfunction or nerve sensitization that keeps the pain system switched on long after the original problem should have resolved. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health notes that chronic pain often involves a mix of physical, lifestyle and neurological factors.
Our Role in Your Pain Plan
Modern pain science is clear that chronic pain responds best to a layered, multidisciplinary approach. That can include movement-based care, soft tissue work, neuromodulation, behavioral support, sleep and nutrition, and in some cases medical or interventional input from your primary care provider or pain specialist.
Chiropractic, acupuncture, laser and shockwave care at Spine-Ability is one important piece of that puzzle, often the conservative, drug-free foundation. We collaborate with your other providers when appropriate, and we will tell you honestly when a symptom needs imaging, medical workup, or a referral instead of, or in addition to, in-clinic care.

Recognizing When to Seek Help
About Chronic Pain
Chronic pain usually comes from a mix of unresolved tissue injury, ongoing inflammation, mechanical imbalances and a sensitized nervous system. An exam helps identify which drivers are loudest in your case so the plan can address them in order.
Yes. Chiropractic care, especially when combined with acupuncture, laser and shockwave, is well-supported as a conservative option for many chronic pain conditions. We work within our scope and refer out for medical or interventional needs.
There is no single best treatment. Most patients respond to a layered plan: laser or shockwave to calm inflamed tissue, acupuncture to modulate the nervous system, and adjustments plus rehab to restore movement. We adjust the mix as you progress.
Many patients report partial relief in the first 2 to 4 visits. Meaningful, durable change in chronic pain typically takes 6 to 12 weeks of consistent care, especially when central sensitization is involved.
Yes. Large meta-analyses of individual patient data, including Vickers et al., have shown acupuncture produces clinically meaningful reductions in chronic pain compared to sham and usual care. We use it as part of a broader plan.
No. We do not prescribe or stop medications. Many patients continue their current regimen and work with their prescribing physician to taper as in-clinic care lowers their daily pain. Always coordinate medication changes with your medical provider.
We often co-manage fibromyalgia and widespread pain alongside the patient's primary care or rheumatologist. Acupuncture, gentle adjustments, laser and lifestyle coaching can help, although expectations and pacing matter more in these cases.
Sudden severe pain, unexplained weight loss, fever, neurological changes like weakness or loss of bowel or bladder control, or pain after major trauma need medical evaluation first. Once those are ruled out, conservative care is appropriate.
